"Obviously, we found out that they were having trouble (signing him) and the general manager (Jay Feaster) called Glen (Sather)," Clark added. "We were in here (at the combine) interviewing and everything and in between interviews we were talking, 'OK, we can do this, do this, do that. They want this.' And the next interview up, we held the kid to call Glen. It was exciting because he was on the board for me (in 2009) and we were deciding what we wanted to do, if we wanted to take a forward or a D that year. He would have been the defenseman. We took (Chris) Kreider because we wanted to get a forward."
...i've seen a lot of talk from Flames fans saying the Rangers should be investigated for tampering, but the bottom line is Erixon didn't want to play in Calgary and the Rangers took advantage of that. Period.
Arthur Staple at Newsday has more on the Erixon trade.
Man, if this kid is really all they are pumping him up to be a defense of Staal-Girardi; Erixon-McDonagh; Sauer-Del Zotto/Gilroy is pretty sweet. Not much experience, but you could sign a veteran for 7th D and then package Gilroy with some picks/prospects to get more offense. Meaning we could pass on the $42M that Sather would probably give Richards. This Erixson kid could be the steal of the decade, and we're only a year in!
@skev303 Sauer/Staal looked good together when Girardi went down this season.
@gravey94 If nothing else he gives the Rangers lots of options including when it comes to trades.
