Jesse Spector at the Blueshirts Blog has more on the nuances of Drury's situation.
Update, 2:56 p.m.:
According to Steve Zipay there is still time for Drury to be bought out...
"...an NHL player can be placed on 24-hour unconditional waivers tomorrow and, if not claimed, be eligible for buyout Thursday."
Zipay adds that a player with a no-move clause must be notified 24 hours before a buyout and can accept or request a waiver
...so still a chance folks.
Jesse Spector tweets that Chris Drury was not put on waivers before today's deadline, meaning he is not eligible to be bought out.
...ok then. Now the only way they can get Drury off the summer cap is if he retires. Rangers can still get his salary off during the season by putting him on long term injured reserve.
...wonder how not getting his salary off the books will affect their ability to sign Richards.
Folks the best weapon in dealing with someone like Iam is to take away what he is wanting which is the attention. She has a case of Internet courage where hiding behind a screen name gives them some kind of lame power.
You take away her power but ignoring her. This is the only way she gets any attention in her life by picking a screen name and behaving like a child.
Ruin her fun by not giving her the attention she is seeking
y'know this may be the booze talking... but what if Sather does not want to take the cap hit the year after and would rather be done with the 7.5million after this year. The rangers may still be able to make a push at Richards... Granted it might not be as strong a push but still a push none the less. In addition, even though i do not know the CBA by heart. The rangers could still go 10% above the cap, as long as they get below it before the start of the regular season.
if Sather can actually find a team looking to meet the cap floor to take on Drury's salary, it would be freaking amazing. Almost as good as getting McD for Gomez.
I think Sather is waiting until the last possible minute to shop Drury to someone needing to hit the cap floor because he doesn't want to HAVE to buy out the captain of the team, plus it'd be more beneficial if he could pull the whole 7 mil off the books instead of 3 and a half this year and 3 and a half next.
Drury's a jerk. This is our "captain"? Just retire and make everyone happy. Time for a regime change in the rangers. When Avery is gone next year he'll be the last of the old rangers.
And what a dumb article. Signing Richards wont cost us our youth. Lozo should take a stroll over to capgeek before writing articles. Then goes on to say we should wait for Penner and Semin (Sharp is getting resigned in Chi), which would be exactly the same thing the old Rangers would do, overpaying for mid-tier free agents instead of top tier ones.
Buyout period actually ends June 30th, not today.
Rangers don't need drury off the cap to sign richards and the UFAs anyway
I heard back in April from an inside MSG person that Drury was going to retire. Maybe he's just seeing if he really can play anymore at the level where he's comfortable he can contribute in more than a faceoff capacity. The guy is a winner so I can't imagine he would just hold on to be a penalty killer/face-off guy.
the only thing i can think of now is dru accepting a trade to a team that needs to reach the cap floor. i dont think hes gonna retire. for some reason i feel like sather has a trick up his sleeve
"With July 1 just days away, it seems there are only three things in life that are guaranteed -- death, taxes and Brad Richards signing a lucrative free-agent contract with the New York Rangers."
Wow I am kind of pissed off that this didn't happen. Do you think it will be retirement or long term injured reserve? What was the deadline today for waivers?
Yeah, but to buy someone out you have to put them on waivers at least 48 hours before the buyout deadline. Which was today at noon.
@gravey94 , interesting point ... would be glad to see him pull a Markus Naslund ...
@mikeyswizz Oh man, did you have to post this?
@whreed Maybe Sather works his trade magic. Deadline was noon today.
@KevinDeLury Buyouts can be completed by July 1st. He would be put on unconditional waivers if he was bought out. Unconditional waivers are different
Check the CBA. Do some research.
haha, well if you read the bottom they do say they rangers should probably be patient another year. But I had to at least post that quote =)
Agreed guys. We are all Rangers fans here and all have our educated opinions and beliefs. The last thing we should do is bite the hand that feeds us. Kevin does a great job with this blog and doesn't deserve to be talked down to. If you want a blog written tailored to your opinion and accuracy approval level, its simple... start your own. And even if you do, we'll all still be reading this one. @AnnoyingJoe @KevinDeLury @KingBadaBing @whreed @iamthebest
@iamthebest @mikey @KevinDeLury I am the best. Really? Are ya? You're a tool. We get it. You want Richards signed. We get it. You can recite the CBA. Do yourself a favor and starting looking at girls. You're coming across as a real Jackass. Thats right, I capitalized it. We're all Ranger fans here, no need to be a dick or jump up and down like a petulant child trying to convince everyone how right you are and what a monopoly you have on the proper course the team should take, you have an opipnion. Fantastic. It's appreciated.
This dude's been doing this blog for a long time. Pipe down.
Lighten up, Francis
@iamthebest I blog every day. Things will be wrong from time to time. I'm only human. Luckily I have you to right me when I'm wrong. And so courteously I might add.
@KevinDeLury Yeah, I mean why would you want to post something that's accurate right?
@iamthebest Better things to do with my time than read the CBA. I just wait for someone who doesn't like you to correct me. Thanks.
