"It's a nice trade for Calgary," Clark said, "because they get a prospect who's ready to turn pro and a couple of pretty high picks. For us, it's a ready-made player -- you don't have to wait to see how he turns out. We know right now he's a top-four D-man, he's played with men for three years. He's ready to step in right now.
"When you go back and check in on him, you see he's gotten bigger, maybe a little smarter on the ice. He's a very cerebral player back there. He really sees the play coming at him, he sees all the options and most times he chooses the right play."
...wow that's pretty high praise there by Clark, whose opinion on prospects I completely respect. Maybe this kid can come in a make a difference this year. Del Zotto better start his training regimin right now.
...also interesting that Clark says Horak is ready to turn pro now. Lot's of so-called experts saying losing Horak was no big deal. Guess not.
I'm already a fan. We'll just have to see how things shake out this summer. Should be a great camp. What are the summer dates of significance? I know free agency starts July 1st. What other dates of note?
I will be VERY surprised to see Gilroy somewhere else next season. He really impressed during the playoffs and at the end of the year. I see him sticking with Erixon or DZ as the 6th.
...why is everyone so quick to get rid of the kid? He had one rough season, came back and played well last year. When he was in the lineup against Washington, I don't remember a lot of people calling for him to be traded then.
Gotta think that Eminger and Gilroy are both gone at this point. I wouldn't even think of signing Gilroy until later in the summer when we see what's left in the budget after signing everyone else.
Also, he said that Horak is ready to be a pro, which means AHL.
So where does Del Zotto fit in?
Girardi - Staal
Sauer - McDonagh
Gilroy / Erixon / Del Zotto / Eminger?
Does this mean Gilroy could be let go and Erixon will take his place?
NHL-ready does not mean top 6. Maybe he's ready for 3rd or 4th line. Rangers can spare those players for a top 4 D, especially Jan Erixon's son!
@TheAveryRule You can't say the addition of Erixon helped his cause. I say if we can get someone decent or a draft pick for his services we should definitely do it.
@cb1 Nice call on the AHL. Didn't think of that.
@whreed Don't forget about Valentenko...
@whreed I think Eminger is gone. But if Gilroy wants to take less money I'm sure the Rangers would like to have him back. Especially because there is no guarantee Del Zotto will turn things around or Erixon will live up to expectations.
@KingBadaBing Was thinking the same thing, but if he's trying to over-hype Horak is he doing the same about Erixon? I'm taking his word for it.
