"Becoming a New York Ranger. First game as a New York Ranger. I was playing in front of eight or nine thousand in Colorado. As a kid I had hockey cards of players like Bob Nevin, of the Original Six teams. I dreamed of playing with one of the Original Six teams. When I got to New York, I thought: 'This is what hockey is all about. Playing in a historic arena like Madison Square Garden in a city like New York City.' You have to be consistently good every night as a player, instead of every other night. The highlight memory was putting on a Rangers jersey and skating out on the Garden ice for the first time."
...shoot the puck Barry!!!
My Barry Beck Colorado Rockies card is my pride and joy. Well that and my Duguay rookie card in which his head is shaved.
Barry was way before my time but clearly left an impact on the older generation of rangers fans. he's up there on the best of our blue liners with park leetch and greschner
although the Rangers did a better job this year protecting Hank than the last couple of years, I can tell you this, nobody messed with the goalie or the crease when Barry Beck was in there.
In fairness to the current Rangers D, however, they have taken away some of the tactics Barry was allowed to use.
I remember getting his autograph as a kid at Macy's or some dept. store. He shook my hand and nearly crushed it! I'll never forget that.
