Since 2005 the Rangers have received 20 more power plays than penalties (2153 to 2133).
...i've got to say I am shocked by this number. I always felt the Rangers received way more penalties than power plays over the years. While 20 isn't a huge number, it does prove the Rangers are actually being treated fairly by the refs. I'm dumbfounded.
yeah, except the refs usually put us in a hole first witha barage of penalties in period one and two, and then when the game is decided (the rangers are losing say 3-1 and the other team has all the momentum) here come the make up penalties to even things out. stats are deceiving
would hardly call that preferential, and besides, that stat doesn't account for non-calls (not that any stat could) so, to me it tells me which teams are more or less disciplined, not how the refs call games...
It's you funny you feel that way, Kevin, because I've thought the Rangers post-lockout have been pretty well disciplined. The small amount of disparity over the span of 5 years is pretty decent. Renney played it pretty safe during the time he was here, Torts seems to have a short leash on guys with a knack for dumb penalties, as well.
@Ranger Dave Agree that using the word preferential was a stretch.
@Lauren D. For some reason I always feel the Rangers are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to penalties. Obviously I'm wrong.
