Former Leaf Freddy Sjostrom heads to Sweden to play for Farjestad next season. Don't know if we'll see him in NHL again.
Sport-Express is reporting that former #NYR Alexei Kovalev is close to signing with Atlant of the KHL.
Holy shit is it october yet??????? Kovalev was the FIRST Kovy also, and not Kovalchuk for all those devils fans out there, and it annoys me when people refer to Kovalchuk like that. It's like how Lawrence Taylor was the first LT and not Ladanian Tomlinson. People have no respect now a days for the originals.
I was all set to say that Kovalev was the last active player to play for that 93-94 cup winning team but I forgot that Todd Marchant actually played in 4 games for the Rangers that season before they traded him to Edmonton for MacTavish(how many people remembered that!)Still,Kovalev was the last active player to actually win the cup with them, and a major playoff performer at that,so it's a bit of a bittersweet day with the last link being gone for good.
In 1994, Nemchinov, along with Alexander Karpovtsev, Alexei Kovalev, and Sergei Zubov were the first Russians to have their names engraved on the Stanley Cup.
Man, you're grumpy today.
Actually, just noticed that Marchant retired last month,so that does make Kovy the last active player from 93-94
@nyny6464 Nice work updating on the fly.
