Stepan's Gotten More Consistent

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

stepanDan Rosen at NHL.com has this quote from Derek Stepan on learning what it takes to succeed in the  NHL...

"My whole entire game has gotten more consistent," Stepan said. "When I went into my first slump, it's safe to say I wasn't playing good enough hockey or hard enough hockey to play at this level. I had to get talked to, get set straight, and now I'm playing better. I went four games without a point, but I think those were some of my better games. Hockey works like that."

Stepan on Brandon Dubinski's positive influence...

"Dubi is a guy that I look to for advice. When things aren't going the right way, he'll be the first guy to come up to me and talk to me. He's a hard-working guy, strong on the puck and he can score goals."

...after a rough start following the opening night hat trick Stepan has been everything and more you can expect from a rookie. This kid is a winner and I'm so stoked for his future as a member of the Blueshirts

....also awesome to see Dubi taking him under his wing.

This is one reason I think Dubi is the guy to get the C when Drury is gone. He's got everything you want in a captain. He's got the talent, he's got the grit, he's got the energy, and most importantly, the leadership. Mentoring is a HUGE part of team leadership. It's a determining factor in the locker room which is where the letters actually matter. Oh... and he's a player that can do all that and still drop the gloves to defend his teammates.

@ryantaussig The great thing about the Rangers is that they have four legit "C" candidates when Drury leaves Dubi, Cally, Staal and Stepan.
