Rookie Bradon Holtby will start in goal for the Caps tonight.
Update, 12:29 p.m.:
Torts reason for Biron tonight...
"Marty is playing well, and there is no way Hank is going to play 5 in 7"
Prust is a game time decision
Update, 12:21 p.m.:
Girardi is out of the lineup tonight.
Update, 12:10 p.m.:
Prust says he's good to play tonight. Just rested for morning skate.
...i'll reiterate what Boyle said Saturday night: Prust = Warrior.
...wonder if Torts agrees with Prust's assessment of his injury.
Update, 11:59 a.m.:
Jesse Spector is reporting that Marty Biron will get the start tonight in Washington.
...why in the world would Biron get the start against Caps, with Hank going tomorrow against the lesser Panthers? Got to question Torts use of goalies recently.
Update, 11:58 a.m.:
Jim Cerny wonders if Torts will dress seven defensemen to guard against Girardi not making it through the game.
While, Steve Zipay is saying Girardi may be out, a gametime decision or 7th defenseman.
Update, 11:52 a.m.:
Del Zotto skated on his own likely sitting if Girardi can't go.
Update, 11:47 a.m.:
Looks like Prust is out and Girardi is in. Tonight's lines:
Update, 11:33 a.m.:
Michael Del Zotto is also on the ice, while Evgeny Grachev will again wear #91.
Girardi has two black eyes from the broken nose he received in his fight with Ladd on Saturday night and both Vinny Prospal and Ryan Callahan are skating in non-contact jerseys.
@thenyrangers says that Dan Girardi is on the ice for the morning skate, while Brandon Prust is not.
Jesse Spector reports that Derek Stepan has a cut under his eye.
...not sure if this means anything other than Girardi needs to test his injury, while Prust needs to rest his. Won't know full lineup until much later.
In case anyone missed it, Atlanta did not escape Saturday's game unscathed either. Iron-man Enstrom (injured hand from blocked shot) and Ladd (lower body injury) did not play against the Bolts on Sunday.
Caps are playing rookie in goal tonight so Biron start doesn't seem as bad. Plus Torts doesn't wan't Hank playing 5 game in last 7 days. Although he''l play tomorrow so don't know what the difference is.
I have to trust Torts on this one. Maybe he feels it's time to give Hank and extra days rest or maybe he's trying to do his best to insure at least 2 points out of these 2 games. Marty is a proven NHL goalie who has played very well this year. Playing him tonight is in no way throwing in the towel. Or else Torts just went with his gut feeling that this was the way to go. Coaches do that sometimes.
i agree. marty should play tomorrow against a less offensive, no surging team. We need to grind out points until our players start coming back
Prust is a beast. I'll reiterate what I said a couple of weeks ago, no one has stepped up more this year, whether you need a fight, or a blocked shot, or a short-handed goal, or playing hurt, and he deserves consideration to wear the "C" or at least an "A" when Drury leaves. As Boyle says, he feels it is an honor to play with him, and thats the type of player you want leading your team. I have no problem with Dubs or Cally being the captain either, but Prusts name should definitely be in the mix.
Kevin, I'm curious on the Biron start too. Maybe Torts feels the decimated lineup has no shot against the hot Caps at their place and he wants to rest Hank for a sure win against the Panthers to get a split and a win before the break. Not saying I agree with that, just trying to figure his motives.. Could also just be the extra work Hank faced in the OT and shootout.
All that being said, how great would a win tonight be! It would replace the win against the Thrasher as "biggest win of the year" in a second. Beating Ovechkin and his boys at their place, with this lineup? Epic.
@skev303 @tbuc15 Rangers played preseason game in Minneapolis a decade or so ago. Had front row seats next to the penalty box and Jason Doig got into a fight right in front of us. For open practice, I got out of work EARLY. Was super excited walking over to the Target Center as I worked downtown at the time. HEARTBROKEN once I saw the posted signs that the Rangers canceled open practice!
@tbuc15 Yeah man that sucks, I live in the UK & years back the Rangers & Leafs came over to play at Wembley (Our national stadium) I went both nights (We won both games) which was awesome only to find out that the Rangers had held open practise sessions at my local hockey club's rink! Man I was p1ssed!
@tbuc15 That sucks. Would be cool if Rangers opened up practice every once in awhile up here.
