Callahan Skating With Stepan, Wolski (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 4:45 p.m.:
Lots of post practice quotes over at Ranger Rants, including this from Dubinsky...

"I honestly can't answer, truthfully, I don't know," Dubinsky said when asked when he would return. "I felt pretty good out there. I'll come here in the morning and see how it feels and create a timeline from there. I went pretty hard before and during practice. If there's a time I'm going to be sore, it'll be tomorrow.

"I'm not going to rule anything out," Dubinsky added. "If I wake up and feel great tomorrow, you never know what happens."

Update, 4:42 p.m.:
Here's the run down of players returning from injury: Callahan returns tomorrow, Dubinsky possible, Prospal likely Thursday, Christensen by Saturday and Fedotenko in 10 days.

...i can't even begin to think who is going to sit.

Girardi is in tomorrow but Torts left the door open for Del Zotto to play.

...Eminger?

Evgeny Malkin joins Sidney Crosby in the press box tomorrow night.

Update, 3:24 p.m.:
Marc Staal took a shot to the foot during practice and did not return.

Update, 2:36 p.m.:

@thenyrangers tweets that the usual orange non-contact jerseys are not "non-contact" meaning Prospal, Dubinsky, Christensen all taking part in full practice.

...maybe prospal is a go for tomorrow. I'm so confused.

New lines with the return of Ryan Callahan...

Avery-Anisimov-Gaborik
Wolski-Stepan-Callahan
Zuccarello-Boyle-Prust
Grachev-Newbury-Drury

...should have called up Kolarik if Grachev is going to be on the fourth line.

Prospal, Christensen, Dubinsky in noncontact jerseys.

...guess no Prospal tomorrow.

Sidney Crosby will not play tomorrow night missing his 10th straight game with a concussion.

I'm not going to bother reading these comments all I want to say is that Drury should sit.

I feel like Gaborik has been so off when he's not playing with Avery. If Avery wasn't a factor in Gaborik's play, then I think he would be an obvious choice to sit if I was Torts because Torts clearly doesn't like playing him too much. In postgame interviews Torts has talked alot about Wolski and Zuke in the shootout realm. Im sure he values their play in other ways, but he seems to put a real emphasis on what they can do in the shootout. That being said, who does Torts eliminate amongst EC, Wolski and Zuke who all serve very similar roles in the coaches eye? I LOVE Zuke and i'm excited for him to be a ranger for many years to come but I can really see mats going down here...

I think these are the optimal lines for the rangers when all the injured players are back. Assuming prospal and gabby still have chemistry, this leaves the rangers with four lines that have proven scoring potential. C'mon torts, make it happen!

zucca, wolski, and stepan scratchable??? Thank god you are not the coach. Those 3 players are hot right now and scoring points. Why they are on your scratch list is beyond my understanding.

Rangers must scratch Drury but that will never happen. EC, Feds, and Prospal really are going to have to earn it. I see Prospal like Drury, is there anything left in the tank? Avery is another one that has to prove he is worth it. Lets see him get another chance with Gaborik.

@TheKing If they keep up the way they've been playing, of course i wouldn't scratch them. but they're both rookies, so i'd keep them on a much shorter leash down the stretch. if stepan plays in march the way he did in november, you bet i'd put him in the press box.

I don't evny the job that Torts has on who to sit. To me, there are 5 guys i would not scratch under any circumstance. The rest I would have to earn their minutes. To be honest, if/when the playoffs happen, I want Drury in there.

Unscratchable: Dubi, Cally, Gaby, Boyle, Prust

The Rest: Drury, Feds, Avery, Wols, Zuke, EC, Prospal, Arty, Step

@cb1 Agree 100% on Drury in the playoffs. He needs to be in the lineup then.

I see Torts sitting EC over Drury. Which isn't fair but just imagine Drury sitting.

I don't think we can have too high expectations on Prospal, the guy hasn't played a minute this season. Hopefully he can get his game going and peak when the playoffs begin.

who is gonna get sent down when Dubinsky, Christensen, Prospal and Fedotenko come back???? Probably Grachev, Newbury but whoelse? Zuccarello deserves to stay... I thinks its time Drury goes...

I am really excited to see what this team does when they are all back up and running again. Could be something pretty spectacular to behold.

You cannot imagine how much I wanted to get up and dance when I saw the words "Callahan returns tomorrow", lol

go on nhl.com and read the preview for the game tomorrow. I find it way to harsh just an observation

Don't agree with splitting up Wolski, Stepan and MZA. Hopefully the revised lines will prove me wrong tomorrow night.

@KCinMN98 I agree, Zukes and Step have really clicked well together, hate to split them up. Wouldn't mind Cally with those two though. You'd have a playmaker in Zukes, a sniper in Step, and gutsy, checking, hustle-machine to forecheck in Cally.

@KCinMN98 I've given up questioning Torts this year, I've been burned too many times.
