The New York Rangers (29-24-4) lost to the Atlanta Thrashers (25-22-10) by the score of 3-2, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...it's all nice and good that the Rangers continue to play hard and the power play looked better, but if they continue to lose does it matter? Still waiting for one of the Rangers young leaders to step up put the team on their back and get them out of this.
...the Rangers have said they want to develop Del Zotto in the NHL while living with his mistakes, but boy did he make a big one tonight. He also did a terrible job on Atlanta's first goal. You never go to the shooter on a 2-on-1, you've got to take away the pass. Having said that, I'd hate to see them send him back because of this game.
...nice to see Gaborik looking more like Gaborik tonight. Too bad the guy probably couldn't score on a penalty shot with an empty net.
...not sure what's worse the Rangers being awarded a power play or Gaborik a penalty shot. Although I thought the Rangers power play actually looked competent tonight.
...while Hank made some nice saves tonight still looks a little off. Thought he should have had that second goal.
...apparently you can slash Avery in the ankle or knock him down on the way to the bench after the whistle and not get a penalty. But if he touches someone it's right to the sin bin.
...less than 10 minutes for both Stepan and MZA. Sending a message to the rookies?
...lots of mistakes by the defensemen, but once again not by Sauer or McDonagh.
...Dubinsky is starting to find his game after his leg injury with his second straight game with a goal and winning 10 of 17 faceoffs.
...Rangers try to brake this five game losing streak on Sunday vs. Penguins.
MDZ is not losing these games for us....how about Anisimov turning the puck over twice that lead to 2 goals...how about an awful powerplay all season long...how about only scoring 2 goals a game....Let these kids stay up here, learn at the NHL level and whatever happens, happen....
Kevin how much longer are you going to defend Del Zotto? How many more games is he going to cost us? The chain is only as strong as the weakest link remember that. They need to send this guy down for the rest of the year before its to late. If they can do a trade with him im all for it. Del Zotto will never be a strong defenseman. Even if his offensive game is up I will always see his poor defensive skils setting him back.
@Fleisch14 First time in the history of TheNYRBlog Fleisch14 and I agree on anyting. Nice.
@BrianMineola @KevinDeLury @TheKing It is the same question that was coming up in the first third of the season: Is this a "rebuilding" year? If it is, you stick with MDZ and develop a solid offensive threat on the blue line so you can make a legit run at the cup in a year or two. If no, and it's back to a one-and-done playoff run to appease the fans this year, then you send him down and focus on winning games today.
At the beginning of the year it was easy: rebuilding. It didn't look like we had a solid playoff team, so might as well rebuild, right? Now, at game fifty-something, we've actually won a few games and the playoffs don't seem so far off.
It sounds like Torts is committed to rebuilding. If that is the plan, then MDZ stays up.
@TheKing It's not so much I'm defending him as I'm asking the Rangers to stick to their plan. If they think he's better off with the Whale leave him with the Whale, if they want him up here leave him here. Nothing worse for a young player than the team not having your back or a plan in place for you.
