On dealing before the deadline:
"When you get down to the end it's really a frenzy for the last six or eight hours ... a lot of people interested in our young guys but we didn't want to give up any of our kids. ... we wanted a left shooting defenseman, and I think with McCabe we did that ... but our goal was not to give up any of the young players we have, and not only the ones who are here but those coming up and those in junior and in college."
"We've got a hard-working team ... I didn't want to disrupt (it)."
"I talked to him today and he said he felt good all day. He's been getting some headaches at night but they've been less and less. I think he'll be back before too long."
On other injuries:
"Boogaard will probably be back ... Hard to put a timeline on it. Drury's the biggest question mark of all. I don't think he will be back."
...really wasn't Drury to be back so this isn't a shock to me. Great news on Gabby, hope to see him back soon.
...love that Sather held his ground in the Richards negotiations. And his above quotes on not given up their youth is music to my ears.
LOL, Kevin, I take full credit (tongue in cheek) for Glen standing pat.
Glen's comment today,
"our goal was not to give up any of the young players we have. We've got a hard-working team ... I didn't want to disrupt (it)."
my comment yesterday before the game on the "NYR Could Still Get Richards; Gilroy Part of Deal" article,
"then the young team that is growing together and playing hard for each other and having a damn good year, gets disrupted."
my work here is done ;-)
maybe Slats reads your blog Kev?
Anyway, I am very happy with todays outcome. Ride these guys this year as far as we can,let em get playoff experience, grab Richards in the off-season,and build a dynasty.
Somebody please buy Sather a cigar! Also, just for a few minutes drop the no smoking ban at MSG for just enough time so that he can smoke it. Very, very impressed and the future looks very good! This absolutely confirms that we have turned a signifcant page here folks from trying to buy our way out of mediocrity to development. Therefore, those aging vets looking for their payday on Broadway no longer need apply.
Am surprised about Drury possibly not coming back and Boogard maybe being ready down the road.
As for AA....still young and making steps...next year will be a very important one for him. I highly doubt that Dallas only wanted him and a draft pick or prospect for Richards.
I don't understand why people are so high on Anisimov. The kid is terrible on faceoffs, he's terrible in the defensive zone, the only thing he does consistantly is skate thru the middle with his head down, he gets knocked off the puck as easy as anybody in the league, seems to get his shot blocked everytime he takes one and he looks like he will, at best, be a 15-20 goal scorer and a 3rd line center
Guess Sather and Torts were as high on AA as I was. Thrilled they didnt get rid of anybody, even DZ ;-)
@CinciMike Great work Mike, we're going to need you again on July 1st.
@Matty_12 I tend to agree, I think he's a bit overrated right now, but then I see him do things that make me go "holy crap", so I think he has the talent. He just needs to figure out how to be consistent, if he ever does, lookout. With that size and speed, man. He's young though, so again, as with a lot of our guys, give him some time.
