Gross has more quotes from Sather at his blog Ranger Rants.
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record says that all of the trades yesterday involving defensemen has not dampened Glen Sather's confidence that he can swing a deal before the NHL trade deadline in nine days and that there's enough talent still available...
"Lots of them," said Sather, adding he's been making phone calls to gauge the trade market for four months. "I'm listening, watching. It doesn't matter what the asking price is. It's what we want to pay."
Sather adds that teams are inquiring about players such as Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh. The Rangers also may not be eager to lose any high draft picks.
Gross continues that if Sather cannot make a match before the deadline he'd also consider looking to the CT Whale for help. Gross mentions Pavel Valentenko, Tomas Kundratek and even Wade Redden as possible call-ups.
...lots of information here but nothing too ground breaking other than Gross mentioning Redden as a possible call-up. C'mon guy, you can't actually believe that's going to happen, can you?
...i do like Sather's quote, however. I think, at this point, we should all feel fairly confident that Sather isn't going to mortgage the farm for a big splash at the deadline.
Speaking of the farm, here's yet another feature on Chris Kreider (2009 - 1st) from newyorkrangers.com.
