"Among the big names potentially available - New York's Marian Gaborik might draw some interest in the days leading up to the deadline.
The Rangers aren't shopping Gaborik, who has struggled this season with just 16 goals in 42 games after scoring 42 last year, but word around the league is Rangers GM Glen Sather is willing to listen to offers."
Dreger adds that clearing Gaborik's salary would help create cap flexibility this summer for key restricted free agents including Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle and Matt Gilroy.
...i don't doubt that Sather is willing to listen, he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't. Having said that, despite Gaborik having a tough year, I'd hate to see the Rangers give up on a proven scoring threat. Even if opening up the cap room brought in Richards, then the question is where is the scoring winger he needs to succeed. Would be very disappointed if Sather moved Gaborik.
its odd syaing this but i trust sather making trades given his recent history. if someone is willing to trade for gaborik youd have to imagine were getting a good player back, at the very least creating cap room for this offseason. that being said its too early to give up on gaborik as a ranger he has 58 goals in a season and a half.
What a non-story.Anyone can claim that a team is "willing to listen" to offers for a player, how can he possibly be proved wrong?Even if a GM were to flatly deny it,which he likely never would, the person making the claim could simply state that the GM wasn't telling the truth in order to protect the feelings of the player involved
The other issue with that kind of snowballing off your comment above in the blue writing not Jack here in the comment section no offense to Jack but that's not where I'm going with this haha I agree with everything you say, but so what if you bring Richards in he's more of a playmaker if there was a way to bring him in with Gabby there that'd be great cause they can pair up and hopefully Richards would get Gabby going..Not that Prospal should start clicking again with Gabs hopefully like last year but he's getting up in age so no I wouldn't like to see him go at all.
Wow that's depressing, more so than reading about Cooke's hit on Tyutin. He's the only proven scoring threat on the team. This team can't buy goals lately with or without him...so unless they're shopping for (I know, it's impossible) Stamkos, Perry, Kesler, Nash, Carter, Franzen, etc...who do they think they'll get.
@RichA I tend to agree with you Rich, but with Dreger reporting you have to assume there is more to it than just listening.
@_Jack They should get Patrick Thoresen from KHL, second in the league in points and goals... He has even gone public that he wants to play for Rangers...
