The Rangers had been rumored to be one of the teams interested in Kaberle.
...thank God. No need to give up any prospects or picks for a rental player who would take away valuable playing time from a young defenseman. Every Rangers fan should be beyond excited about this development.
...now we just have to hope they stay away from McCabe.
I too was relieved we did not go after Kaberle. We are moving so well in the right direction with youth that I would not want to upset the ship unless it is an offer that was far too big to ignore. Kaberle would not be in that category unless we felt that we stood an awful good chance to win the Cup this year. Otherwise, what is the point?
I am also very cautious of players coming out of Toronto who get a lot of press (up here at least) but when they leave we never hear of them again (where are you Wade Belak?). Sometimes I wonder if it is a case of "big fish in a little pond" in terms of the team's talent pool.
i think youre being a little dramatic, so we enquired about a position that we needed to strengthen, this not going through isnt exactly something to be "beyond excited about"
this is a great example of why sather is wrong in thinking you cannot develop youth in new york. great job not pulling the trigger on it, and stay the course.
@broseph973 Saw that the other day. I was too upset that the Rangers didn't get him back to post about it.
@drywpd Amazingly I think Sather has finally earned that trust this year.
maybe i have too much trust in sather, but i cant see him making a dumb move like getting rid of one of our top prospects in a situation like this
@Alex Nunn @drywpd I was obviously being over dramatic to make a point. I have no problem with Gilroy (not coming back) or Eminger losing time if they want to bring in an inexpensive vet. I'm just happy to see them not give up on a prospect for a quick fix. Now if the Rangers could have gotten Kaberle for a 4th I'd be happier than a pig in you know what.
@KevinDeLury @drywpd C'mon Kevin, that wouldn't have happened and you know it. I'm with drywpd to an extent; this team 'needs' a vet defenseman -- I don't consider taking playing time away from Gilroy or Eminger to be a problem at all. Kaberle was always likely to cost too much, but there are options out there that Sather will explore over the next 10 days.
@drywpd Sure it is, because it's more than just not getting Kaberle it's a sign to Rangers fans that the Blueshirts really are comitted to youth and building a perennial winner. How would you have felt if the Rangers got Kaberle for Kreider, a 1st in 2011 and a conditional? Not very good I would think.
