Video: Rangers/Devils Renew Hudson River Rivalry Tonight

How is it the end of December and tonight is the first Rangers/Devils game of the season?...

For information on how rare it is for the Rangers and Devils to meet this late in the season click the "Read More" tab below.

Tom Gulitti at the Bergen Record puts in perspective how rare it is for the two teams to meet this late in the season...

"This is the longest the Devils and Rangers have gone from the start of the season without facing each other. Before this season, Game 23 (in 1995-96, 1999-2000 and 2000-01) was the Devils' latest first meeting of the season with the Rangers. In 20 of their 28 seasons prior to this one, the Devils played the Rangers at least once in their first 10 games."

The Devils Zach Parise is just as surprised as anyone...

"Someone was asking me the other day if we beat them and I said, 'We haven't played them yet,'Ÿ" Devils captain Zach Parise said Monday. "It's surprising that it's almost halfway through the season and we haven't played them once."

i think its great that this is the first game between the two this season. both are finding their stride and playing at a high level. i felt this rivalry has lost some lust over the past few years. hopefully we'll see some fire between the two tonight
