Torts Gives Richards a Wake-up Call

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

richardsprustDan Martin at the New York Post has this response from Brad Richards after John Tortorella sat him for nearly the entire first period Thursday night in St. Louis...

"It's been like that since I've known him," Richards said. "It's not a big deal. I have to be held accountable like everybody else. ... Sometimes it's good to get a little wakeup."

For Tortorella's thoughts on the benching click the "Read More" tab below.

Torts on benching Richards...

"He gets it. That will never be a problem with [Richards]. He understands his game."

Richards is pointless with a -3 in his last two games.

...Richards has gone into a little funk here, but great players find a way to fight out of it and Richards is a great player.

...one of the few problems I've had with Richards this season is his propensity to miss the net on golden opportunities.

...interested to see if Torts switches up Richards' linemates tonight. WOuld love to see Hagelin on one of his wings.

JoeA ...Thank You!!! I thought it was just me! I don't know who Larry Brooks is watching...The guy just won't hit ANYBODY...No fore check,No back check. He'll avoid bangin' a guy in the corner by turning away from the hit and allow someone to get back in the play and score while he wanders around in thse defensive zone. He is easily knocked off the puck and falls down often. And his plus/minus is only exceeded by Prust a fourth line playr who at least works his ass off.j Not only do I wanr Avery back But I want him to get someice time...

i dont mind him missing the net... because thats what happens when u shoot for the corners and hes buried some big goals.... but his play in his own zone is terrible... everytime u see the other team perculating in the offensive zone the richards callahan fedetenko line is on the ice... and i constantly see richards gliding around or even standing still... its easy to tell why his career plus minus is so bad
