Practice Notes: Gabby, Bickel Sit; Woywitka Ready; Staal Does Drills

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross reports that Marian Gaborik was given a maintenance day today and Stu Bickel missed practice due to a swallon eye he received during scrap with Michael Haley last night.

Gross adds that Jeff Woywitka says he's ready to return to the line-up, however John Tortorella isn't sure what he's going to do with his defensemen.

Tortorella also says he's undecided on what he's going to do with Wojtek Wolski now that the Rangers winger is healthy to play.

Finally, the Rangers note that Marc Staal stayed on the ice late after practice to work on one-on-one drills.

...i think you can pretty much guarantee that Woywitka will be back in the line-up tomorrow night in Washington with Erixon headed to the Whale.

...as far as the forwards go, Rupp seems to be the likely candidate for a healthy scratch to make room for Wolski as he's been ineffective the last few games.

what's going on with Avery? Is Torts still scratching him?

You really think there is still a place for Wolsky on this team, Kev? He was underperforming BEFORE the injury. I think he might be done here, especially with that $3.8 mil cap hit.

@CJ I feel that injuries have held him back this season. I'd like to see what he can do while healthy.

@KevinDeLury I think now we have a pretty good read on what "he can do" at this point. He has not put up more than 17 since his sophomore season (and hasn't come close to that for a while). He is soft, inconsistent, he is great in the shootout (which has not really been something we needed this season) and he costs too much.

@CJ@KevinDeLury I don't think we have a pretty good read on what "he can do"He hasn't had one season with the same team in the last two years, he has barely played this season. And when he was playing this season the whole team was underperforming. I think Kev's boy still deserves a chance to show us what he has to offer this season.

Disagree Kevin. I see Erixon playing over Woywitka and if Rupp not healthy, see them bringing up Deveaux. Wolski doesn't fit as a bottom 6 and no room right now in top 6, He might even end up in Hartford and would be 1st call up if one of top 6 not performing or hurt.

@lennynyr Len, I hope you're right but as Volcom says I think the Rangers would rather give Erixon big minutes with the Whale. I don't think Erixon looks ready yet.

@lennynyr your wrong no way they are keeping erixon playing 10 min a game when woywitka can Handle that erixon would progress more in Hartford playing 20+ min a night
