Practice Notes: 8 Defensemen; Same Extras; & Staal Cleared for Contact

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The Rangers report that all eight defensemen (no Sauer or Eminger) took the ice for the morning skate.

...assuming this means Woywitka will be back in the line-up and Erixon back in the AHL.

Meanwhile, Andrew Gross reports Sean Avery along with Erik Christensen and Wojtek Wolski made up the scratch line again.

...only a matter of time till Avery and EC are waived.

Speaking of Wolski, he says he'll know tomorrow whether he's able to return to the Rangers line-up. (via Rangers Twitter feed).

Finally, Gross says that Marc Staal has been cleared for contact and has this quote from the Rangers defenseman on being cleared...

"I totally felt fully confident going on the ice and taking some hits. There was no doubt in my mind it was the right thing to do."

...i'm not going to be comfortable until Staal is able to walk away from a tough hit the way Crosby wasn't.

Staal adds that he still needs to work on conditioning as he's not ready for the grind of playing 25 minutes per night.

The Staal part.

Gross lists Woywitka as the healthy scratch, not Wolslki who is still injured. Hence it looks like Erixon is still here for now

ec has the best chances at STAYING, primarily due to his small cap hit. wolski could have to be ,moved to clear space for staal.

@LateNiteFilings Financial definitely makes more sense to keep EC over Avery. Also with players like Rupp and Prust Avery becomes that much more expendable. Which I obviously don't agree with.

Hmm... Not sure how much you can trust Staal and the 'no doubt in [his] mind' - the man has a brain injury, after all ;)
