Is McDonagh Tiring?

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

With the injury to Marc Staal, Ryan McDonagh has stepped up his game and taken on huge minutes to fill the void.

But you have to wonder if the increased ice time is taking its toll on the young defenseman as he is pointless with a -6 in the Rangers last six games. Including some bad giveaways as evidenced on the Blues first goal last night.

And then there was this...

...Backes is a big guy, but you never see McDonagh knocked off the puck like that.

This is one of my problems with Torts. I understand the guy is doing whatever necessary to win, but I think he wears some of his key guys down to a bloody pulp until nothing is left. Girardi looks tired, too. Hank looked tired in net last night. If you're good enough to make the NHL and the New York Rangers, then the coach should roll four lines more and spread the minutes around a bit more, especially during a game when nothing is happening. Step back and look at the big picture.

I don't think he is tired at all. These guys are in awesome shape. They can handle these minutes. I bet they love playing this much. Backes is a big guy and he got mcd good with his shoulder.

would have to double check, but believe that McDomination had been on the ice for a long time before this hit and was empty on gas

he's been so good for us it's tough to remember that he's only 22 and in his second year (1st full year) in the league. i don't think he's tired, but there are going to be some rough patches in his game that we're going to have to accept, especially when he's on the ice so much.

@cb1 I just worry that he, along with Girardi, are going to get burned out with all the minutes they are logging right now.

I'm drawing a blank here, but did they shrink roster sizes since 1994? I remember the '94 team has Karpotsev, Kocur, Kypreos, and Olczyk in the press box as the "Black Aces" Seems like the Rangers have only 1 forward and 1 Defenseman scratched every night. They should definitely rest their top guys once in a while.
