Cablevision, Time Warner to Likely Settle

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Deadline Hollywood reports that Cablevision and Time Warner will most likely settle on a deal before their contract expires on December 31 and avoid MSG Network being pulled from the television operator.

The snag in negotiations is that Time Warner is against Cablevision adding the FUSE Channel (music) to their MSG sports package...

"How will this play out? Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Vasily Karasyov says that, like most of these carriage fights, both sides will probably settle before they do too much damage to each other. MSG may decide that Fuse isn't worth the fight: He figures that the programmer would lose $8M for each month Time Warner Cable doesn't carry MSG, MSG+, and Fuse."

...this should be welcome news to all Rangers fans who have Time Warner.

Time Warner is pledging not to take MSG off the air, but that the decision rests with MSG and MSG only.

Cablevision/MSG has always confused me with their BS. They seem to want no one else to have their channels, but wouldn't more carriers equal more money for them? For years Time Warner didn't have MSG2 HD, only Cablevision had it, but why? Verizon had to go to court to get the MSG lineup made available in HD to them, but why? It's not like I could switch to Cablevision (TWC and Verizon are my only options) to get their exclusive channels. The whole fight seems stupid because Cablevision/MSG has nothing to gain.

@CJ I have the same issue except I can only get TWC. They have exclusive in upper manhattan and building does not permit sat. dishes...

This is a problem with the old franchise system. They need to do to Cable what they did to POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) make it where more than one carrier can go over the copper wires. There has to be something better than this... where it is extremely hard to switch and the carriers know it... there is a systematic problem that GOVERNMENT created and needs to be fixed. When you have exclusive they gouge you on rates and poor service
