Breaking Down Richards Miraculous Goal in Phoenix

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

There's no other word to describe Brad Richards goal with 0.1 seconds left to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 last night than miraculous.

So I thought I'd give you all the particulars in video and picture form...

Here's the video. Pay particular attention to the play Biron makes...

Here's pic showing that it was in fact a goal...

Here's the second after it was announced a good goal. Check out the joy on everyone's face starting with McD's (over Richards' right shoulder)...

...you know it's a crazy goal when my wife, who is far from being a hockey fan, almost jumped out of her seat when it went in.

...goal never happens without Biron coming way out of his crease to fire the puck back up ice to basically set this goal up.

...it's only been three months in a Rangers uniform for Richards, but he has quickly found the answer to being a successful athlete in New York. Clutchness.

I loved hearing the crowd cheer for the Rangers in Phoenix after the announced win. I wonder if it's cheaper to book a flight and hotel and get two tickets to the game in Phoenix than it is for just 2 tickets at MSG?

Does this mean that the next 24/7 is going to end with this miraculous goal and the Flyers getting absolutely destroyed by the Bruins? Sounds like great television.

@KurtBalogh +1. The conversations on the bench during the goal review should be great.

Love the celebration picture as they come off the bench. They all look crazy (DZ, McD) or bored/dead (Richards, Prust, etc.), and you'd expect ridiculous faces in a candid picture like that. And then there's Lundqvist, looking completely normal, like he's just smiling and waving at admiring fans. He's not human, I tell you. Always photogenic AND rescues wayward parrots. What can't he do?

@Random_Ranger Your observation on Hank is hysterical. And true.

@KevinDeLury I also thought when the team mobbed Richards and kept doing the congratulatory helmet rub thing that it's a good think Lundqvist won't ever get a goal and celebration like that. His hair would have been mussed, and he would not have been amused.
