Avery Knows He Can Help
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Dan Martin at the New York Post has these quotes from Sean Avery responding to his two straight healthy scratches..."It's definitely more frustrating," Avery told the Post. "I know I can help.
"It's not easy, but it's part of the job have (sic) and you have to deal with it. I want the guys to play well regardless of who is in the lineup, but it's tough."
Avery adds that he has not tried to influence John Tortorella to put him back in and doesn't feel there's anything he can do in practice to change the situation.
...i give Avery all the credit in the word. He has every right to bitch and complain, but he keeps his mouth shut and goes about his business. Shows his respect for the Rangers organization.
For Tortorella's thoughts on Avery click the "Read More" tab below.
Here's Torts on Avery being a healthy scratch...
“I’ve got a lot of players out that I have to consider, not just Sean,” said Tortorella, refusing to single out Avery. “I’m pleased with how all the guys are working.”
...more like "I consider a lot of players, but not Sean." With two straight passionless games from the Rangers it seems only logical that Avery be re-inserted. But when you're dealing with a coach that holds grudges, you can throw logic out the window.
...and please Torts don't give me you're pleased with how all the guys are working. Especially after last night.

Seriously, all the others who would replace him are invisible, and no one can tell me he wouldn't have a better impact out there then ec, dubi, and boyle right now
CLASSLESS! Entirely classless move by Avery!....... for real, though. Can we get Christensen out of the fucking lineup already?
Woa, Torts really said “I’m pleased with how all the guys are working”?? Guess he slept thru the last 2 games & 4 of the last 6 @thenyrblog
Comments like this makes me more of an Avery fan. On 24/7, when he was talking about being sent down and then called back up, he had that look like he had something more to say, but he kept it professional, like he does here. He needs to get back in, we know it, he knows it, but there is nothing he can do until Torts' knows it.
Kev...
orts wont stop until he's run Avery out of NY or ended his NHL career. There actually should be some sort of union grievance process for a player when treatment like this is so blatantly personal and not performance based. Torts damages the team himself with his petty grudges.
@thenyrblog you are so right Avery is a real man look at tonterellow he only played his favorite guys like web did borin play a week ago
I have to admit, last season I was very down on Avery, and I gave him a hard time. This year, you are absolutely right; he deserves to play, and he can bring much needed energy to the team (especially the way they have played lately).
I also agree Boyle and Dubinsky have been brutal to watch this year. Sitting Dubi would only make it worse. Boyle I think might react a little better to a night off, let him get his head straight. Dubinsky needs a goal more than ever and sitting him won't get one. He needs to calm down and throw pucks at the net. When he missed the net last night on that 2-on-1 you could tell we was tense. Let him get an ugly goal from the goaline. Just throw it on net from the corner. Despite the terrible game last night, Hagelin can make any linemate look pretty good, maybe you put Dubinsky with Hagelin.
Looking forward to Rupp and Wolski getting healthy, and I pray for Staal to come back.
Dubinsky need to be rested for a couple of games. I know he is frustrated but watching from the stands maybe give him a different prospective. For the size of his contract, he can not be babied. It'd been 28 games he needs to sh-t or get of the pot. This team need goal scorers as indicated by the last two games. Lets try some prospects for Hartford see how they react. Go Rangers!!
@ShawnTS8 I was thinking the same thing. Not that Mitchell hasn't done well, but he hasn't amazed me either. @TheNYRBlog decent point about Boyle as well. He has looked pretty useless this season, not sure what the problem is. Bottom line is that there are players that need to be inserted into the lineup (Rupp and Aves) and you basically need to toss the bottom 2 to make space. In terms of recent stats, Boyle and Mitchell are identical. What about Feds? He has been shit recently (0's across the board and -3 in the last 5 games.)
@ShawnTS8@TheNYRBlog@CJ what a drop off from Boyle since last year. I would be hesitant to do anything with Feds...he could be under the radar for half a season then come out with one or two HUGE goals out of nowhere, especially in the playoffs
@CJ@ShawnTS8@TheNYRBlog Good point on Feds he has been struggling under the radar for sure.
@thenyrblog I would sit Dubinsky right next to Boyle for a couple of games. Your move coach!
@thenyrblog Mitchell and Christensen should be scratched, Avery and Rupp in.. you agree?
@ShawnTS8 I agree with Rupp & Avery in. I'm thinking that Boyle needs to sit for one. EC is obvious.
@thenyrblog Torts is would really have a tough time explaining how what he's doing is good for team and not just his enormous ego
