Avery Clears Waivers
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report says Sean Avery has cleared waivers and will be CT Whale bound....no shock here, as the perception around the league is that Avery can only be effective playing in New York. Too bad Torts doesn't feel the same.
In Carp's post game thoughts from last night he mentions that Avery's fate with the Rangers was sealed with an apparent incident in Buffalo. One of his readers explains the incident...
"Avery apparently brought his mother and a friend into the Ranger locker room to the ire of Tortorella, who said something to the effect of 'you have to earn the right to be in the room' or something."
...if this is true Torts is a real prick. It was his mom!!!!

Kevin, Tortorella is a real PRICK, irrigardless of the Buffalo incident. The guy is lower then the maggots that live under rocks. I dispise the son of a b---tch!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tort's needs to get his head out of his ass!!
He's even said that all he cares about is winning games, right?
Well, here you have a player who's shown his worth to the team over and over and still gets the shaft.
What? Bringing Avery back for a month and winning 13 of 15 games with him in the lineup wasn't good enough for Tortarella?
Apparently not!!
Say what you will but I think Torts is being a real douchbag about this whole deal.
It's really time to move on and put Avery in the past. I have supported and loved Sean every day since he first put on our sweater. Fact is the future is w/o Avery. Torts may have his quirks and stubborn tendencies but I fully believe in him and that he will bring us a cup. Ultimately I don't care what he does to do that. Winning a championship has so much to do with a head coach and I believe we are fortunate to have one that is worth putting up with minor BS. Cut the Avery stuff out, Enjoy our Rangers, we are having such a great year with so many in our future. I know many of you out there have been suffering so so long and it's so important for us to now embrace all the good things that are going on for us. Enough with Sean Avery, go out and get Martin Hanzel and we would be golden, Torts is here to stay, and if you asked all 23 guys in that locker room they would truthfully tell you that they're behind him and that is what matters. Happy New Year Ranger fans, here's to every year being better than the last for us!
What I wanna know is where's Sather and his opinion? He's the one that has to put Avery on waivers to send him down to the minors.
@thenyrblog I think this is an excuse If Avery made a diff this season I would be upset. Since they are doing well without him, can't argue.
I have been a Ranger fan since the 60's. Being a fan the one thing you have to get use to in this organization is trading players that you love. Such as Giacomin, Gartner, Leetch and Messier to name a few. The one thing I loved about Avery being on the team is that he brought personality. Which is something the Rangers have not had since 94.
Yea we are in first but what wood our record be if Avery was in the line up and got minutes equivalent to Feds, Prust, and Boyle??? Maybe we would have a few more wins. Avery plays a game and is more talented than a few guys that I mentioned. Being in 1st is irrelevant because if Avery was playing we would have a better record. We are a better team with him in the line up end of story.
Saying being in first is irrelevant makes your opinion irrelevant. Since when did 1 player equate to greater importance than the team? And you call yourself a fan? We are a better team without him, that is why we are where we are. But of course that possibility never entered your mind because you only care about 1 player, you don't care about this team or it's success. You should be ashamed for even posting such an absurd statement.
@ChrisGibson I hope you got some rogaine from Santa, man you are an ugly bastard. Before you criticize someone you have to be able to analyze and not just say what you want. I think if Avery is in the line up instead of a guy like Feds or Boyle the Rangers are a better team. I should be ashamed of wanting a better team? But since we are BARELY in first everything is ok? Its not about loving Avery its about how he legitimately deserves to be there instead of some others. So how dont I care about the team by wanting them better? You are a douchebag, never seen a post from you until this one. Your response was full of taking shots at me. Good job.
My response wasn't a profane laced tirade calling someone names and insults. My post was 100% spot on and the Winter Classic was a perfect example. This tem is #1 in the NHL and none of it has anything to do with a player that no one in the entire NHL wants or can stand. It's only mouth breathers like you that can't even formulate a proper reply without trying to be as insulting as possible. No wonder you like Avery, because like him, you have nothing to offer other than a foul mouth. Avery deserves to never play another NHL game again and he is going to get what he deserves. And while my team continues to move forward I will take great pleasure in knowing fans like you have to sit there and eat it without the worst player on the team.
@thenyrblog torts is a great coach for this team and he wanted no part of Avery. Too bad.
@thenyrblog Torts is a piece of shit and I would have not issue telling him to his face and so will my 7, 5, and 2 year old Avery Rules!!!
Just so everyone knows where I stand on this whole issue, while I'm not happy with Torts' treatment of Avery, there is no way he should be fired.
@KevinDeLury I agree Kev, but last night's victory didn't taste as sweet to me knowing that Aves was really gone. And, if this story is even A LITTLE true, then Torts isn't the tyrant asshole I thought he was, he's even worse. You can't argue with results it's true, but I can still loathe the man for his methods.
@thenyrblog And @incarceratedbob was told that Avery slept with a teammate's girl. From a good source, according to him.
@snowkitten35 @AdamRotter and then 1 of @thenyrblog 's posters claimed they saw Torts mouthing off about Avery's mom & friend in room.
@thenyrblog Yeah I'm wading through the comments section now. Lots of "I was in Buff and saw this" going on. @snowkitten35 @AdamRotter
@the_nange @snowkitten35 @AdamRotter 1 person also says Leonard reported it. Didn't see that. I'll ask him.
I was at that buffalo practice with my boyfriend. Avery's mom actually asked us for tissue paper or wrapping paper to wrap his gift because he said he wanted to open it in front of the HBO cameras. Torts is the biggest peice of shit
@rangers_girl16 so Torts should just open up the locker room to anyone who wants to come in? How about high school buddies, cousins, girlfriends, fans? What coach would allow it ? Sounds like his Mom was worried about getting a staged feel good moment for HBO. Please. C'mon really?
@rangers_girl16@CinciMike i think that this is really the point, that regardless of whether the actual incident was right or wrong the real problem here is that Torts just needed an excuse to send Avery back, which is just wrong
@CinciMike@ErinM I completely understand now after the incident how wrong it was for a player to do that. I don't think it deserves being sent back to the minors over, I still believe like many others that it was an excuse more than anything.
@ErinM@rangers_girl16 his Mom should know better. I have a kid playing high school hockey and my wife or I would never think about gong into his locker room, ever, and I'm sure he would be pissed if we did. Hasn't Mom ever heard of having a birthday party to give him a gift, oh wait, there's no cameras there.
Your teams first in the league and you're complaining about this!?!? C'mon guys! You have one of the best teams in the league and are pretty much poised to make a deep run in the playoffs, but you're saying screw that, fire Torts over some knucklehead player. Yes he adds an edge (sometimes) to the Rangers play, but they're fine without him. Just enjoy the winning!
@Isleshockeyblog some of these people astonish me. And I'm a Rangers fan. They don't care if they're in first place, they'd rather have Torts fired? Geez. Did I slip in to a coma and wake up surrounded by fraud Rangers fans? #SMH

I guess that I'am similar to Torts. He doesn't like Avery and I can't stand Tortorella's guts but I wouldn't fire him until the team is tuning him out which will come. Maybe not this year but believe me it is coming . A tirant's shelf life will last only so long before he gets stale.
@ChristopherDecker@deleted_2065836_andy11@Isleshockeyblog I agree 100% that Torts should not be fired.
@KevinDeLury@deleted_2065836_andy11@Isleshockeyblog That's all well and good. Opinions are fine. I never have a problem with the opinions of others. But come on, you have to agree that there are extreme forms of it that are just unnecessary. Torts should not be fired.
@deleted_2065836_andy11@ChristopherDecker@Isleshockeyblog Agree with Andy. I don't think there's anything wrong with criticizing the team no matter how they're doing. We all want them to win we just have differing opinions on how to do it.
@deleted_2065836_andy11@ChristopherDecker@Isleshockeyblog He said the Rangers are fine without him, and I have to agree. Avery is clearly a great and talented player, whom the rangers would trade away for other talent IF THEY COULD. Torts has a clear agenda for the Rangers, and it just doesn't include Avery, and I'm okay with that at this point.
I like Avery, a lot actually, but Torts seems to know what he's doing.
@thenyrblog To Torts' point,I didn't see Cally bringing Granny Cally and the family into the room. But that's not why 16 is gone...again
@thenyrblog I have to believe that is not the case. Still a weasel for not being a man and just saying, "I don't like him"
@thenyrblog IF, IF that has anything to do with it, Tortorella is more of a limp dick weasel than I thought. He is one lonely grumpy bitch.
@IMLazzaro Fire Tortarella, because his style of coaching has no efficiency in the NHL. Fire Tortarella, ignore the standings and ignore his Stanley Cup ring. Fire Tortarella, because clearly his style of coaching can't be successful in the NHL. Fire Tortarella, because this team needs to operate under a new system. Fire Tortarella, because he deemed one player unnecessary for the New York Rangers to succeed. Fire Tortarella, because Sean Avery has done so much more for the organization than Torts can ever do.
@NH_NYR_88 you gotta be out of your mind. you wanna fire the head coach that turned this entire team around over one player that has never done anything worth mentioning on the ice IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER. yes he brings energy, yes hes hardworking, yes hes a good hockey player. who cares if the coach doesnt like him I thought we were NYR fans not sean avery fans.

@deleted_2065836_andy11@IMLazzaro My mistake. But I was being ironic, there is absolutely no cause or reason to fire Tor... err, the coach.
so done with Torts, at least man up, it would be so much easier if he just went out to the media and said, 'hey, i hate the dude, he bothers me, i dont want him on my ice' i would have so much more respect for him
@NH_NYR_88 no he's said that he has better players that theyre healthy, that they dont need him, he has never mentioned a personal problem which we all know is happening
@ErinM I'm talking about TSN era Torts. I know what you're saying, but it's unnecessary for him to come out and talk trash about him to the media. That would be hard on the organization, too. It is what it is. Everyone has a pretty good idea of what is really going on, if it wasn't the truth it would have been cleared up publicly weeks ago at least!
@thenyrblog If that happened in Buffalo, no one knows. But I can guarantee you that a plethora of things besides that sealed his fate.
@thenyrblog there's nothing to the "buffalo incident" his mother always goes to those games. Just another Torts excuse to banish him.
