With the salary cap at $64.3 million, the Rangers have $29.3 million dollars invested in five players.
Those players are Marian Gaborik ($7.5 million), Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875 million), Brad Richards ($6.7 million), Ryan Callahan ($4.275 million) and Brandon Dubinsky ($4.2 million). Numbers per Cap Geek.
...having so much money tied up in five players definitely makes a team depend on young players (Stepan, McD, Sauer) and reclamation projects (EC, Wolski, Feds). Which as we know the Rangers have plenty of both.
Well I kinda have to disagree on a few points here kevin.. first off Feds is not a reclamation project he is a 3rd line guy who you can trust on the ice, so too are many players like Boyle, Prust, Rupp, etc these are character guyus who fill roles your core guys dont .. any team looking to win need a few scorers a good d core and a bunch of guys who do the littles things.. saying that because we have 5 guys making most of the cap only makes the point of the argument seem superficual and makes the Rangers look like they are somehow in a bad position which they are not.. the point of the article is to indicate that with the rise in the spending cap teams have larger cores .. and personally a young core like we have as you also have to add our top 4 defenseman our goalie and a couple more guys like rupp and boyle who are signed for 3 more years, the number is more like 40 mil or 41 for 8 or 9 guys.. Im totally cool with that because we Actually HAVE A CORE for the first time in a long time...
@andrewstamant29 Re: Feds I meant more when they got him last year.
@cb1 That is a great point.
