The New York Rangers (43-33-5) lost to the Atlanta Thrashers (34-34-12) by the score of 3-0, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...if Monday night was the most thrilling game of the season, tonight was the most depressing. I can't for the life of me figure out how this team could play with no sense of urgency with the season on the line. One thing you can always count on with the Rangers is hard work and for some reason in the most important game of the year it wasn't there. And a little scoring would have been nice. Very disappointing.
...you know what this team needed tonight? Ryan Callahan.
...now not only is Gaborik not scoring, he can't even back check.
...all I can say is poor Hank.
...it kills me to say this but the Rangers need to get rid of Avery this offseason. If he's not going to play on the edge, while not being able to make even the simplest plays (see not clearing the puck on first goal) why is he on the team?
...bad time for Girardi to play his worst game of the season.
...i know Dubinsky had a huge moment Monday night, but I was hoping for more from him tonight after knowing he needed to step up with Cally going down.
...guess Gilroy's year in a half of forward experience at BU didn't do him well tonight. Shocking.
...if the Rangers don't make it to the playoffs the one thing they can look back at is there ineptness on the power play. Amazing how many times the power play killed momentum instead of created it this year.
...wonder what Prospal thought of the boos tonight?
...any chance Thrashers put forth same effort against Canes tomorrow night? I didn't think so either.
...just read back my thoughts man I'm miserable right now.
...i'll end this on a positive note. I still feel this team gets it done. Every time they've had their backs against the wall this season they've come through. So why not one more time.
...final game with the season on the line Saturday afternoon against the Devils at 12:30 p.m.
games like this put me in such a shit mood. why doesnt avery piss off the opponent. how do we get slammed by the thrashers they will probably get slammed by the canes its up to the canes to loose im really upset i am absolutely besides myself at this. if another rival....let alone the devils . just bad. hank is showing some signs of fatigue though he has played very well. the offence did not exists last night
It seems like the rangers only come out and decide to do battle against top seeded teams. It's amazing. we've seen it now against atlanta, islanders, senators, and even florida despite winning 1-0. I agree about avery. hard working or not, the guy has 3 goals. and you right, if he's not playing on the edge, what good is he? I will say, I am a big gaborik fan. Obviously I wish he could be effective like last season as Im sure every ranger fan feels that way. But this season, his inconsistensy is really driving me nuts. When you see a lazy back check like that it makes you question where his head is at in some of these game. I think he deserved to get benched, because at that point, I doubt Gaborik was going to be the guy to spark the team at 3-0. The only thing you hope for is that torts message got through to him and we see a different player come out to play on saturday. I am not nearly ready to count this team out. Hopefully we get a little outside help and go balls out on saturday...do or die!
get rid of Avery!
get rid of Gaborik!
Prospal sucks!! Wolski sucks?
umm arent you ignoring the obvious?
maybe its the coach who SUCKS?
game 81 and he is still changing lines, benching players, and most importantly NOT having his team ready for what shouldve been an easy home almost-playoff clinching win, with or without Callahan?
If they are capable of winning that Bruins game Monday they are certainly capable of winning last night's game. So who do you blame, the players that won that game Monday, or the coach that last last night's game?
bye bye Tortorella!! please go away!!
I'm so pissed off and throughly dejected by what I just watched. We play at the level of the teams we face and we end up losing 2 critical games to 2 teams whose names aren't even in the same sentence as the playoffs.
never thought id say this but its time to get rid of avery i agree. hes a liability and if hes not going to be himself theres absolutely no point. followed swiftly by the "captain"
@bauerout They definitely play down to their opponent.
Torts absolutely deserves some blame and I was negligent not to mention it above, but he doesn't play the games. If the players need a coach to motivate them for game 81 with the season on the line they don't deserve to win anyway.
Tortorella has put together a game plan for this organization that we will not see come to fruition for another two years. Will his seat be getting warm with the Rangers missing the playoffs for a second straight year, sure but barring a collapse next year he is going to be around for the foreseeable future.
@Rex_Havok It will totally suck.
I agree, that if you need a coach to motivate you in game 81 you dont deserve to get in, but its game 81, he is still changing lines and benching and messing with players, which at this stage is INEXCUSABLE
What exactly is the Tortorella game plan? please explain it to me
having your best players blocking shots? cycling endlessly until you can pop the puck out and maybe get a goal? cycling even on the power play? overplaying your best players like staal and lundqvist to they are completely shot when you need them the most? shooting wide of the net hoping for a odd bounce? is that the plan? because thats what it looks like.
You need a mix of veterans and kids to be a winner in this league, the kids learn from the vets, and the only veterans he seems to like are players he used to coach, like fedotenko, prospal, and the next overpaid loser on his way here, Richards. He does everything great coaches do not do, he plays favorites, he plays head games with players, and instead of using the talent he has, he wants everyone to play the way he wants them to play.
and another two years? this is already his second full season. Is this year better than last? shouldnt it be? his attitude sucks too.
you can buy into Tortorella's his rhetoric all you want, and so can deaf dumb and blind Sather, but his plan is clearly not working.
