"Philadelphia might get the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizen's Bank Park, the MLB Phillies' ballpark. But it won't be held on New Year's Day because that's a Sunday and an NFL day. It could be on New Year's Eve or on Jan. 2, possibly against the New York Rangers."
...wonder how the ratings for the game would be effected by moving it off of New Year's Day? Guess they have no choice but to move it b/c the ratings would no doubt take a dip being up against the NFL.
...that would be a fun little road trip. Who's with me?

Since the Winter Classic is an event to increase the popularity of hockey in America, they focus on American teams. And since its only American teams, the only original 6 team not to play inthe WC are the Rangers. Include the Heritage Classic, now your only talking about Toronto.
I dont agree with the repeating of past WC teams but i do agree with the teams in a big event as this, and on a big tv stage as 24.7.
Id go but those phillies fans are a little nuts. idk why the nhl keeps doubling up. first the penguins now the flyers? half of the original 6 havnt even played in it yet while teams like the pengiens and flyers will be in it again and at thier homes none the less i dont understand it.
1) The NFL might go into a lockout. Which I would have no problem with... I mean i like football and the NFL but im no die hard. Rangers and NHL come first. So i hope it allows New York to get the Winter Classic, meaning in New York. @ Meadowlands where its riding over 90,000 strong. I also hope it means it can remain on the Sunday that New Years day is on.
2) New York deserves it. 6 million people. The percentage of hockey fans is very small, but the population is still very large. Plus, even non hockey fans would go... just like any other city. This Winter Classic is a HUGE event. This would also bring more hockey popularity to the huge market. Being an original 6, they deserve it.
3) I dont agree with Philly being in it again... but a Phily New York matchup would be very very good. Especially on 24/7. If not Philly, I would not mind New York Islanders, Carolina. But Philly does make the most sense if you disregard their past appearance.
Heritage Classic should be held in Toronto at the baseball stadium field they have their right next to the Seton Tower!!!! Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators. HUGGGGEEE RIVALRY, Huge FAN BASE. HUGE HISTORY.
The New York Rangers alternate jersey would be interesting. Idk what it would be. Maybe their old 70 jersey where their logo on the front. Or they can bring back the 2000 jersey with the liberty jersey.
** i know long comment but one more thing... I always wanted to see a Red jersey by the New York Rangers. Nothing used for much, but once in a while. Something to represent like the Firemen of NYC. I thought they would have on 9/11. Idk Sum ideas
Let's do it! Can't wait. I'll definetly buy the alternate Rangers jersey they'll come out with for that game if it occurs.
Id rather see Washington vs. NYR. With the quasi rivalry they've had the past few years and the carryover from the Caps being on last season's 24/7, as well as two fiery coaches in Torts and Boudreau, it could be HUGE. Especially at a big-name stadium in two big markets.
