"I remember at the beginning of the game they were booing us," said Prospal. "The chills are for us, for the hockey players, for the bench, for the coaching staff, for whoever believes in us. Just an hour-and-a half before, they booed us.
"It's great that they cheer, but holy smokes, give us help when we're down. It's easy to say right now, and they have the right to express their opinion, but we're fighting for big points right now. This is karma."
...Prospal is 100% correct that the Garden crowd should have been encouraging the Rangers when they were down, but c'mon Vinny Monday wasn't your first game at MSG. You know what it's like to play in New York so deal with it. This isn't St. Louis where they blindly cheer every player, this is New York. You either perform to the best of your ability or be prepared to feel the wrath of the home crowd.
...and Vinny might want to take a look at the tape of the first period and a half because the team deserved to be booed. Especially when the Rangers are on the brink of a second straight playoffless season.
...although he was the hero, so I guess he can say whatever he'd like.
Well after vinny scored msg legit carried the team it was incredibly loud. I mean i never like booing a team i like, maybe a player here and there(ie javi vazquez) but i somewhat agree i dont think booing is necessarily good but it happens . though when the garden comes alive the rangers are a different team
Really, don't like it? Too Bad! That is our right as fans when we see our team perform the way they did for the first period and a half. Sorry to boo you but like the other person who commented there were 5 shots on goal after the first and that was after 10 minutes of play in the first. You know why your getting booed because WE are paying for your salary to perform. Yes it was one of the best games I have been too in 2 yrs that is because the team came out in the 3rd and played their hearts out. Try doing that for a full 3 periods and don't perform the way you did the first period and half, you will not get booed. PS: Its NY, that's what happens when we are not happy fans seeing the same year after year
It's funny the comments here and the ones I've received on Twitter are very divided on booing and Prospal's response. Very interesting.
He is absolutely right. That team battles their butt off every night and really don't deserve to be booed.
cant say im one to boo, but ina game where everything was on the line and they come out and go down 3-0 what exactly does prospal expect?
I was at that game Monday. The Garden was rocking in pre-game like it was a playoff game and started the game cheering like crazy for the team. You get 5 shots on goal in the first period and give up the first three goals to Boston with the playoffs on the line and what else do you expect but boos?
If hearing boos at home because your team is playing heartless hockey when you are supposed to be fighting for a playoff spot doesn't get you angry and motivated, then perhaps you need to find a new line of work. I never understood that...boos and cheers should equally motivate, I don't care what sport it is or where the game is being played. It's the apathy that is the killer, but I have never seen that at MSG. Suck it up Prospal and get in the playoffs!!
@Anna12 Boom!!! Way to bring the thunder Anna. Love the name to. It's the same as my daughter's.
@gravey94 Fans should be more supportive as booing can be counterproductive sometimes. But this is New York and as you say Prospal needs to suck it up.
