...either way, MZA will have plenty of time to recoup and be ready for training camp.
Berlett also reports that Michael Del Zotto, who will be celebrating his 21st birthday in Las Vegas on June 24th, almost came back for Game 3 of the Whale's first round playoff series after missing 25 games with a broken finger...
"I almost played in Game 3, but the doctor wouldn't give me clearance at the end for fear that I might break the finger again," Del Zotto said. "In two days, it'll be eight weeks since the injury happened, and if I'd know it was going to take this long, I would have had surgery."
...good to see them playing it safe with Del Zotto, no need for him to further injure himself to play just a few games. Hope the person who recommended no surgery isn't the same person MZA is seeing b/c it sounds like he gave the wrong advice.
...if Del Zotto can get his head on straight and dedicate himself to the team next year it will be like the Rangers making a huge offseason transaction for free. I know a lot of Rangers fans have written him off, but I still think there's time for him to find his game again. He's just 20 years old. Would hate for the Rangers to give up on him too early and miss out on someone who could be their power play quarterback for the next 10 years.
Del Zotto is simply not an NHL defenseman. Nice little passer, but nowhere close to the physical tools or instincts to be an effective pro. Simple as that. Stick him on this team and he will be pissing off coaches and fans every night. Its not his fault, he's just not good enough to cut it in the bigs, just like a million guys before him.
With our D-core of stall, girardi, mcdonagh, sauer, and Mcilrath in the works, our defense is undoubtedly in need of someone with an offensive presence. In my opinion, Del Zotto could easily fill the void of Mccabe and I wonder if having him in the playoffs would've been more productive. With guys like Dubi and Cally, there hard work has to rub off on some younger guys. Still, the guy obviously needs to be more defensively sound
how do people give up on someone like him so quick, he had a great rookie season, yes his defense needed work but he was 19. Its called developing it just angers me that one bad season makes fans give up, hes an incredible player that had a bad sophomore season, there is a term called sophomore slump is there not? There wouldnt be a term like that if it wasnt common. hes good he needs confidence and the rangers need to develop him right.I will be furious if he gets traded, look at his goal from last year, so much potential. I believe he will be a fantastic player and provide offence from the blue line while guys like staal mcd girardi and sauer hold down the line defensivly
Hoping for a nice bounce back season for Del Zotto. Even if he doesn't have a great camp send him back to the Whale for his continuing development. Will still only be 21. Plenty of time to figure it out.
I agree abotu DelZ. When I look at him, I think of tyler myers. The guy had an amazing rookie season with buffalo. Sophmore season comes along, and he hasd a terrible first half, but then he has been able to turn it around. Perhapds DelZ had to take a different path to get his game back. He has so much talent for a 21year old, and I would hate to see the rangers throw him away this early in his career. Im confident the ranger organization will stick it out with him and let him find his game again
@Scott_from_Jersey You may end up being correct, but I'm not ready to proclaim he can't be a solid NHLer after less than two years of NHL experience.
@Louie Dog Improving in the defensive end will be key for Del Zotto making the team out of camp this year.
