Well Del Zotto started tweeting again last night, including this tweet about going out to a restaurant with some friends...
...would rather see Del Zotto tweeting about how he's working hard to come back hungrier than ever next year instead of going out drinking with some buddies. I'm not saying he can't go out and have fun, I just think this tweet sends the wrong message.
...h/t to reader Desmond.
Pretty sure this last one was in response to the posting:
It absolutely sends the wrong message. This goes to what I've said about Del Zotto in the best: He doesn't have the makeup to be an NHL D-man. I wish it wasn't the case, but it is. He's never going 2 be what everyone wants him to be. And dont compare DZ's tweets with Prust's or Hank's. Its embarrasing.
Guess I took this the wrong way. Just felt for a guy who has been criticized for not being committed this wasn't the best way to return to Twitter.
Oh come on, the season JUST ended. He's what, 21 years old? He's allowed to go out and drink with friends. I guarantee nobody else on the Rangers/Whale or any other team not currently playing in the playoffs is all that focused on next season at the moment.
@Hkychick22 Not against him going out. See my below comments.
Yeah I saw that. I have no problem with the guy going out. I posted the other day he was headed to Vegas for his 21st birthday and had absolutely no criticism (http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2011-articles/april/injury-updates-for-zuccarello-a-del-zotto.html). Just felt his first tweet back could have been directed at fans about how he's working hard to get back into the NHL. Really not a big deal, but just wanted, as I always do, post my thoughts on it.
@AnnoyingJoe As far as never being an NHL D-man, Staal spent TWO seasons in Hartford before the Rangers finally brought him up. Del Zotto is STILL younger than Staal was when he made his NHL debut I believe. Defensemen take longer to mature than forwards do. Del Zotto will be fine. He's going to be a great player for a long time in the NHL, and I'm sure his mental makeup is perfectly OK.
Another Staal reference (well the other three brothers besides Marc)? Remember when they all got arrested a few years back on the eve of the NHL season beginning for getting drunk and being disorderly? Yeah, Eric and Jordan don't have the makeup to be great NHL players.
@AnnoyingJoe Disagree with you Joe. I have no problem with him going out, it's just the message he sends with that tweet. I have been a huge defender of Del Zotto and will continue to be b/c I feel he is the future pp quarterback for this team.
@scoop and slam Definitely. Prust said he was going to go hit a beach. Lundqvist and Christensen are apparently both planning weddings. Etc, etc. No one is working hard at anything for next year yet - it's not even a week since elimination. I'd be more upset - and a bit worried for their mental health - if anyone jumped right in to an intense training schedule for next season already.
As for choosing that specific message to be his return to tweet-dom? Whatever. Until all the players are required to have a Rangers-sanctioned twitter account with which to spout the company line and other happy sound bites, it's his to do with what he wishes, especially a harmless tweet about seeing old friends.
@scoop and slam agreed. his season is over, let him have some fun and distraction. plenty of time to get ready for the next season.
@scoop and slam Not sure how Staal brothers come into the conversation...AnywayI don't think he is going to develop, and not just because of some stupid tweet. Again, I hope you're right and I'm wrong.
@KevinDeLury @AnnoyingJoe My mistake. But my point somewhat remains the same, the Rangers kept Staal in Juniors for two years after drafting him but they brought MDZ up and threw him into the fire right after he signed with them (and only a year after he was drafted). There's obviously going to be growing pains while he develops.
