"Well, the one thing, its reputation is far better than the actual building," the coach said. "I mean, it's nothing. The locker rooms are horrible. The benches are horrible. There's no room for anything. But the reputation of being in Madison Square Garden is what makes it famous. Also, our building's a lot louder, too. So I mean, they can say what they want, but it's not that loud in there."
...the sad thing is Boudreau is probably right. Which is why MSG is currently under-going renovations. Boudreau didn't even mention the rat droppings that have been reported in the concession areas.
...as far as the loudness of MSG versus the Verizon Center again Boudreau is probably correct. Because ticket prices are so high the real fans are priced out meaning corporations are filling those seat with non-hockey fans. Having said that with the Rangers winning last night I expect MSG to be absolutely rockin' on Wednesday night.
...would love to see Rangers use this quote during Game 4 to get the fans in a frenzy.
...h/t to Steve Zipay.
I find this funny. Hey Boudreau, i think you should think of what you said. Your stadium is filled with band wagon fans, If it was not for a player with the number 8 your stadium would be empty. Our fans have a rich history. A ORIGINAL SIX history. A history that spans generations. Your hollow shell of a arena has no history . After the renovations MSG will again be state of the art but thats not what its all about. Its about the history which the capitals lack. Lets go RANGERS!!!. I hope the crowd lets him have it weds. And i knnow this is a hockey blog but LETS GO KNICKS!!!!!
I cant believe you let this fly so easily Kevin. I hope you post a reminder on gameday for everyone in attendance to just lose their minds on Boudreau, give him the "MAARRR-TYYY" treatment and he can see how loud that building can get.
ok, sure MSG isn't the nicest arena (that honor, from my experience goes to Phillips Arena) but it is old school hockey at it finest, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The rangers have some of the most hardcore, and intellegent fans in the entire national hockey league. I would put the noise level at MSG easily in the top 5 in the league, and it is created purely through fans, our energy, not bells and whistles, and sirens, and smoke machines.Old School Hockey, at an old school arena, with old school traditions make it better than anywhere else in North America to watch a hockey game, bar none.
But Washington and their legion of bandwagon fans wouldn't know a thing about Old School Hockey or what we are about, so I suppose their coach shouldn't either
I just want to say MSG may not be as loud as Verizon Center (or so says Butterbean) because we don't need to have people clanking on cowbells and whatnot to bring some sort of energy to the fans. What you receive at MSG is 100% authentic energy from the fans, nothing artificial. No cowbells or police sirens. The benches are also small because maybe he's too big? Just food for thought - no pun intended (seriously). I feel Big Bruce could not have opened his mouth and flapped his gums at a worse time. GG Bruce - I sure hope the crowd eats you and your team alive on Wednesday evening to bring you ladies back to Verizon Center knotted up at 2. Also really puzzled why he needs to address comments on MSG in general, the fans, and the level of loudness? Who won? *shrug* After all, isn't that what really matters? I couldn't care less if I hear a pin drop when Dubinsky nets the winner - Rangers win - you lose. Move on, like the NYR did after Games 1 & 2.
does he ever shut up. i hope the fans go CRAZY on Wednesday and are all over bruce. the classic msg spirit needs to show this guy up by feeding the team and harassing him and the caps, make him never wanna come back
But...it is okay for their fans to throw stuff at our coaches in their arena, correct?
Here's the problem Bruce, your main concern is what is happening on the white stuff in front of your bench, not what is behind it.
If the Caps do not lift the Cup this year, Boudreau is a goner....and then he will add another chapter to his book bitching about the Caps, Ovie, McPhee, blah, blah, blah....
Whether Bruce is right or not, I can't comment on since I have never been to DC.
My question: Why would he comment on this and rile up the Garden for Wednesday? Has he not been constantly reminded that he is on the hot seat and will prob no longer be coaching the Caps if he suffers from another early exit?
@JJohns Absolutely agree that Rangers fans vs. Caps fans is no contest. Where I agree with Boudreau is that the Garden crowds aren't that raucous anymore. The real fan has been priced out leading to a more corporate crowd that aren't as into the game.
Having said that Boudreau maybe made one of the biggest bone head moves I've ever seen. If he doesn't think the MSG crowd is that loud why in the world would you insult us insuring what should be one of the frenziest (is that a word?) MSG crowds in recent history on Wednesday.
@BrentG reading the barstool rebutle is what i think i seriously hope the fans come down on him
@BrentG Definitely puzzling. You'd assume he'd be more interested in getting his team ready for Game 4 not creating controversy.
