"I certainly don't fault Boogaard for signing the deal and taking the money, but Wade Redden and Co. might need to make room for the Boogie Man on the Connecticut Whale team bus. And that could be the best-case scenario for the banged-up brawler."
...if Boogaard can get himself into shape, and that's a big if, I still think there is a big role for him on the Rangers. While we all admire Prust for taking on the heavy weights of the NHL, he suffered physically from his battles with much larger competitiion. With Boogaard back in the lineup doing the heavy lifting Prust could be an even better asset for the Rangers.
...and I'm not saying the Rangers should throw Boogaard out there every night, but he has to be in the lineup against teams like the Flyers, Islanders and Penguins.
Hume also takes a look at other contract issues facing the Rangers this summer.
I think you would need him in the line up as either a healthy scratch or a 4th line guy. The purpose of the Whale is not to stockpile aging over priced free agents, it's meant to develop the youth of your hockey club. Sending him to the whale may help clear space during the season but it still won't help in the off season when trying to sign free agents.
i see no room on the roster for Boogie. Let's just get Boyle some fighting lessons so we have someone who can at least hold his own against the heavyweights out there when needed.
Boogie is a waste of a roster spot. No one in this league fights heavy weights anymore, especially boogard. No one wants to fight him. Prust plays the roll perfectly. And as much as I love drury, he needs to go or re-negotiate his contract for a lot less money. Cally, staal and dubi are the leaders on this team.. Need to sign dubi and cally and get Richards in here.. Gaborik needs Richards badly!
sather should have just resigned Shelley instead of Boogaard last year imo. He could take the bigger guys and wasn't as expensive...
Lundqvist says no to Worlds. Claims Sather ordered him not to go. People in Sweden are upset and don't believe that for a second, saying he's a diva who'd rather sip dom perignon..
Personally I don't think Sather ordered him not to go, just rather saw him rest. He would have the same role on the national team as the Rangers; he'd be the only superstar and would have to carry the team by himself.
Agree. If he's actually in shape and can be fit with the cap and whatever other signings there are, yes, absolutely, throw him out there for games as needed. Hell, bonus - he had the same # of goals as Drury this year ;)
@cb1 in a perfect world that would work great for the team but Brian Boyle is 6"7' 240 and plays like 5"10' 180. I like Boyle a lot but for his size, guys should fear going into the corners when he's coming. But they don't. His height and size should intimidate a lot of guys and it doesn't intimidate anyone!
@maxie Guy brought his country a gold medal just four years ago and they're calling him a diva. Short term memory across the pond.
@Verrigo3 i totally agree. hopefully after his first successful NHL season, he'll get some confidence going for next year and take his physical play to another level. same goes for sauer and mcd.
@KevinDeLury Yeah, memory is short term. Think the majority doesn't like the way he's saying no. I think they'd accept his decision if he'd been nothing but honest. They think he's hiding behind Sather.
@KevinDeLury good, they can be linemates in CT.
